- FINBAR FUREY -

Chasing Moonlight
Featuring: "New York Girls"
as seen and heard in the movie, Gangs of New York.
"Finbar Furey has left his mark on the music of Ireland for more than four decades. As a lead singer and uilleann piper for The Fureys, a group he shared with his brothers Eddie, Paul and George, he helped to guide the evolution of Ireland's traditional music."
"Hailed as Ireland's Prince of Pipers, Finbar has done so much to popularise Irish Music for over thirty years and to bring it to a wide and appreciative audience, firstly with his brother Eddie, then as a member of the celebrated Fureys...and now in his own right: A multi-talented instrumentalist, singer and songwriter with a charm and magic all of his own."

I liked particularly the baritone voice that presented the songs in such a way as to catch the spirit of the song. This CD was a joy to listen to as I worked about the office. Many times I was caught up in the music and thought about being in Ireland walking a country pathway. Perhaps that is the key to Finbar's success, the ability to catch you up into the moment of the music.
There are many good songs on this CD but I really liked "Dreams In Your Eyes" and "Connemara" by Finbar. I have included the words to "Connemara" below.

~ C O N N E M A R A ~
Dancing streams woo Connemara
Tranquil Burren, unquiet, still
Mystic shapes, inventing moments
Loughs enhancing flowering hills
Connemara
Luring landscape rising forward
Instil rain clouds, masking dawn
Ghostly shadows chasing moonlight
Softly breezes whisper morn
Connemara
Salmon fountains, distant motion
Marble ocean, granite reefs
Fishing boats, nets weaving, trawling
Casting prayers, white horses sleep
Connemara
Wispy grasses, rolling windswept
Peat turf cottage, fairy forts
Creeping moss, black water basins
Rocky aprons, sean nos gorse
Connemara
Ancient island, basking, timeless
Emigration, hungry bones
Famine pathways, haunting mysteries
Barefoot history, carving stone
Connemara
