Rockaway Rises And Rises Again
REVIEW: What is every member of Congress getting? Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) has ordered 435 copies of my book---one for each of his colleagues in Congress.
Braving The Waves is the story of those who raced to save others on 9/11 and then did the same when Flight 587 crashed in their own neighborhood---a resolute salt air hamlet full of Irish Americans.
The book details how Irish Americans have always filled the ranks of the NY Fire Department and follows individuals such as Mike Moran-who told a packed Madison Square Garden that Osama bin Laden could kiss his royal Irish ass; and Deputy Chief Pete Hayden, a legendary firefighter who survived both tower collapses on 9/11 and then ---on his first day off--- watched Flight 587 come apart in the sky. He ran on foot to supervise operations. Irish Americans named Carroll, Doyle, Mullen, and a Monsignor named Geraghty are central to the book. And this is about a place with heroes like George Johnson one of the three firefighters in the famous flag-raising photo; and Billy Heeran who quit Wall Street to join the FDNY in honor of his twin brother killed on September 11.
The book has endorsements from Tim Russert of NBC, Brian Williams of MSNBC, Mike Barnicle of the New York Daily News, many firefighters and the Irish Voice newspaper.
I hope you, too, think all of Congress getting a copy is timely and interesting It's good to know Congress is being reminded about the bravery and generosity of Irish-Americans.
The book is available by calling Rising Star Press at 1-888-777-2207 or going online at Amazon.com and BravingTheWaves.com. The book is also available at many bookstores and Irish gift shops.
